The Mahindra & Mahindra Groups History

Anand Gopal Mahindra belongs to the third generation of the Industrial family, born to Harish and Indira Mahindra. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) co-founder Jagdish Chandra Mahindra is his grandfather.

Mr. Jagdish Chandra Mahindra (JC Mahindra) was born in Punjab Ludhiana in 1892, Mr. JC Mahindra had completed his Engineering in Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute and his Small brother Kailash Chandra Mahindra has completed his study at Cambridge University

After completion of education, Mr. JC Mahindra got a Job in TATA STEEL Company from 1929 to 1940 (Senior Sales Manager).

Mr. JC Mahindra & brother Mr. Kailash Chandra with his partner Malik Ghulam Muhammad started a business with the name of Mahindra & Mohammed Ltd. On October 2, 1945.

At that time the first company of Mahindra Group is a Steel company because after the war demand for steel companies was increasing.

Mahindra Company Rename After India & Pakistan Divided .

 But after some time in 1947 when India & Pakistan Divided Malik Ghulam Muhammad has gone to Pakistan and become the first Finance Minister of Pakistan.

JC Mahindra and his brother suffered a lot from Muhammad going to Pakistan and taking back her stakes from Mahindra Groups. The company was renamed Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) by Mr. JC Mahindra and his brother after much struggle.

Mahindra Jeep Business.

In 1947, Mahindra entered the Jeep business with the help of Mr. Kailash Chandra Mahindra (KC Mahindra). Since then, Mahindra has manufactured Tractors and other businesses and made Jeeps for the Military and Police.

In 1951 Mr. Jagdish Chandra Mahindra died & Kailash Chandra Mahindra Died in 1963.

In January 2020, Anand Mahindra won the Padma Bhushan Award. Anand Mahindra was born in Mumbai on May 1, 1955. His father  Harish Mahindra was an industrialist, and his mother is Indira Mahindra. Anand Mahindra has completed his early education at Lawrence School, Lovedale.

Anand Mahindra went to Harvard University to study Film Making and Architecture in 1977. After a while, he dropped out of his Film-making course and completed the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Harvard Business School in 1981.

After he graduated from Harvard University he returned to India where he married Anuradha (journalist and editor of the magazine “Verve” & “Man's World”) and they had two daughters, "Divya and Aalika Mahindra.".

In 1981, Anand Mahindra joined his family's business Mahindra Ugine Steel as an executive assistant. After eight years of hard work and many changes, Anand Mahindra was finally promoted to President of Mahindra Ugine Steel in 1989.

As a Deputy Managing Director, he later joined Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, a company with a tractor and off-road vehicle segment, in 1991. In 2001, he became Vice-Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra in 2003.

In 2002 Mahindra Group has launched Mahindra Scorpio which is one of the famous Cars of Mahindra Group after that Mahindra was more Successful in the Auto-motive sector.

Anand Mahindra was co-promoter of Kotak Mahindra finance limited and further upgraded into Kotak Mahindra Bank. Kotak Mahindra Bank is one of the leading Private sector banks in India. He also invested 1 Lakhs Rupees in 1985 which was Now more than 1400 Crores.

The company acquired Reva Electric Vehicles in 2009, as well as Satyam Computer Services.

In 2012 Mr. Anand Mahindra become Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra Group.

In 2013, Forbes (India) named Anand 'Entrepreneur of the Year. In January 2020, Anand was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award, India's third-highest civilian award.

Anand Mahindra's net worth is about $ 1.6 Billion. He is also included in ‘world 50 greatest Leaders’ by Fortune Magazine.

• Anand Mahindra Nanhi Kali Program in which the family which is not capable of giving education to their girl children then this program helps them to get a good education. Over 70000 projects were running worldwide to teach small Girls Children for better education. This project was run in 1969
