What Comes to your mind when We say about Village?

Huts, Broken and muddy Roads, Irregular water supply from water wells, and much more but this is a village in Tamil Nadu with proper facilities for water and 24-hour Electricity, it also generates its own electricity and supplies to TNEB (Tamil Nadu Electricity Board). Odanthurai village is situated in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore, nestled at the foothills of the Nilgiris, It has a panchayat of 12 Village, and more than 10,000 people live in this village.

The Journey from Lack of Basic Facility to a Smart Village….

A few years ago Odanthurai village has lack of basic facilities Like:- proper water supply, No electricity & also a Lack of education facilities. But Now the village was Developed with the Government's Different Schemes and the proper planning of Sarpanch Mr. R Shanmugam who used the Government schemes properly and change the entire village into a Smart Village( where a proper 24-hour Electric supply with a renewable energy source, and proper water supply and all the basic necessity.

In 1996, Mr. R Shanmugan became the sarpanch of Odanthuri village his first priority was to start building houses in the village with the help of government schemes.

After that, he used the Government scheme for the proper water supply in the village for this scheme the village should need to give 10% money of the entire subsidy. So they Collected 4 lakhs 80 Thousand rupees for a Proper water supply in Each and every house.

The One Major Step towards Green Revolution… 

Now, the Panchayat took a bank Loan in 2005 – 2006 For 350 Kilowatt wind farm Now it produces 67,5000 Units of Electricity Each Year. And also the Panchayat Installed a Solar Panel In every Roof of the house and the Additional Electricity Generated from The resources were sold to TNEB (Tamil Nadu Electricity Department) and Earns Approx. Revenue of 19Lakhs in a Year.  The Odanthurai Panchayat Uses this money to pay back the 15 million Bank Loan.

THE ONE MAN BEHIND THIS WHOLE IDEA & EFFORTS

The entire Story of Odanthurai looks like big change and magic but the Efforts of the Village people and The Proper Guidance of Mr. R Shanmugam. He was elected as Sarpanch in 1996 and Apart from Sarpanch, he was serving the panchayat as a president for more than 10 years, Later also Joined his  Wife as a panchayat member in Serving the Society.
